We were gifted the recipe for our Awesome Burger by the Burnett family well-known for their A&R Burger Stand in Pendleton. The A&R Burger stand originally opened in the 1940s but became a fully fledged restaurant in the 1970s. For 29 years, A&R Burger Island served the awesome burger and was the pinnacle of Pendleton’s burger scene. When the state of Oregon wanted to put in a new overpass for highway 11, the state purchased the restaurant’s land and demolished the building and the long history of the Awesome Burger with it. But, 16 years later, we reached out to the Burnett family to bring life back to the Pendleton Burger scene. They gifted the famous recipe to our owners and the Awesome Burger is back on the menu in Pendleton.
